The production offers a completely sung-and-rapped through dramatization of Alexander Hamilton’s life – as he takes on the world and starts a revolution. Hamilton discusses revolution with his friends in a pub, including the Marquis de Lafayette; suggests a new form of government as a delegate at the Constitutional Convention; and acts as the first Secretary of the Treasury for the new country. Hamilton is shown as both the aggressor and the victim of political intrigue, the main character in the country’s first major sex scandal, and a survivor of numerous catastrophes. Of course, let’s not forget the themes of love woven into the production, as Hamilton woos his wife Eliza – slightly charmed by her sister Angelica.
Variety said “After six months, the show’s initial impact hasn’t dulled a bit; in fact, the qualities that made it so extraordinary the first time around are all the more striking…That rapper style, with its interlocking interior rhymes and pounding cadences, perfectly captures Hamilton’s feverish intelligence and hyperarticulate manner.
